Eagle Feathers

I made a project last year that I called Twin Eagles.  Here is a reminder photo.  What I was really wanting to make was an eagle with individual wing feathers.  A pretty big project, but I finally got myself motivated and started designing the pose and scale of the eagle.  Then I began making the feathers.  I drew the images of the shapes and quills and then printed that onto paper and then transferred that to the copper screen material that I am using for the actual feathers and glued quills to each spine. The overall wingspan is going to be about 31cm or 12 inches.  These 40 feathers are less than half of what I need to make.  Here is what I have so far.Twin EaglesTwin EaglesPrimary & SecondaryPrimary & Secondary

Absolutely stunning work so far! The level of detail you’re putting into each individual feather is impressive — it will really bring the eagle to life. Even though the project isn’t finished yet, it’s already shaping up to be something truly special. Can’t wait to see the full wingspan come together. Looking forward to the finished eagle in all its glory!

Hi Phrogflyer,

Thank you for sharing this with us. The feathers look so authentic with lots of detail. I really like the fact that both eagles are carrying a fish. This looks great.

Hi Victoria and thank you for your comments.  I was actually pleased with the fish.  they were my very first attempt at carving something from wood other than a part for some mechanical device.  I have no real affinity for wood carving.  Crossing my fingers on the eagle that it will be authentic looking.

Your work is so impressive. The attention to detail is amazing. You really have to have a lot of patience to take your time on this project. I look forward to more pictures and updates in the future.

That is very kind of you to say.  I am not sure that I consciously pay a lot of attention to detail, it is more that I want something to look a certain way and those details are what makes it work if that makes any sense.  Plus things just get added on as I go ecause it just seems right.  Every project is an adventure!
