For rotary tools Dremel provides three types of cutting accessories: a steel blade, cut-off wheels and cutting bits.

  • The Rip/Crosscut steel blade is designed to be used only in conjunction with the 670 Mini Saw Attachment.
  • Cut-off wheels cut along their edge and are designed to cut or slot materials. Cut-off wheels include emery wheels, fiberglass reinforced wheels, the cutting/shaping wheel, the diamond-coated wheel and the CBN wheel.
  • Cutting bits cut in a manner similar to spiral saw blades, and include the drywall cutting bit, the multipurpose bit, and the tile cutting bit. These are all designed for use in conjunction with the Dremel cutting guide attachment.

Cutting Blade

Red546.jpg

The #546 Rip/Crosscut blade is a long-lasting, mini circular blade that cuts both with and across the grain on wood and wood-like materials. The steel blade is 1 ¼-inch diameter and is designed to be used only in conjunction with the 670 Mini Saw Attachment and has a maximum cutting depth of 1/4-inch. The blade mounts directly to the attachment so no mandrel is needed. The 546 blade has 48 cutting teeth.

Mandrels

RedMandrels.jpg

Before we discuss cut-off wheels, let’s take a moment to discuss mandrels. Dremel has two different mandrels – the 402 mandrel and the EZ402 mandrel. The importance of mentioning this is that cut-off wheels fit either one mandrel or the other. There is not a shared way to have any of our cut-off wheels fit both mandrels. The standard 402 mandrel requires a screwdriver to tighten the screw that secures the cut-off wheel to the mandrel. The EZ402 mandrel uses a tool-free mechanism to secure the cut-off wheel to the mandrel. Cut-off wheels with the prefix EZ in the model number all require use of the EZ402 mandrel.

Cut-off Wheels

Cut-off wheels can remove the head on a nail, cut-off a bolt, cut through coated wire shelving, re-slot a painted screw head or cut through an exhaust pipe clamp. When using cut-off wheels, hold the tool with the one- or two-handed golf grip. This grip will help keep your cut consistent and smooth, as the tool will tend to grab and ride the material in the direction the wheel is moving. Always clamp the material to hold it steady when cutting.

Emery Cut-Off Wheels

RedEmery.jpg

Emery cut-off wheels are designed to provide a thinner cut or slot.
Model numbers include: 409, 420, 509, 540

Fiberglass Reinforced Cut-Off Wheels

RedEZLock.jpg

Fiberglass reinforced wheels are more durable, but have a thicker cut. The 426 fiberglass reinforced wheel fits the 402 mandrel. Any cut-off wheel model number that includes EZ as part of the number fits the EZ402 EZ-Lock mandrel.
Model numbers include: 426, 456, EZ409, EZ426CU, EZ456, EZ476

Max Life Metal Cutting Wheel

RedMaxLifeMetal.jpg

The EZ506HP Max Life premium metal cutting wheel features a super abrasive grit called cubic boron nitride or CBN. CBN used around the rim on this cut-off wheel allows the wheel to remain sharp longer, stay cool, and it won’t shrink. The EZ506HP cutting wheel lasts at least 20 times longer than our fiberglass-reinforced cutting wheels based on internal testing. For use with the EZ402 EZ Lock mandrel.

RedMaxLifeMultiP.jpg

The EZ545HP Max Life multipurpose diamond-coated wheel provides long-lasting performance and impressive durability. The cutting wheel is coated around the rim with fine diamond particles for working with hard materials.  The EZ545HP cutting wheel lasts at 3 times longer than our EZ545 diamond wheel based on internal testing. For use with the EZ402 EZ Lock Mandrel.

Cutting/Shaping Wheel

Red543.jpg

The #543 cutting/shaping wheel is coated with super-tough tungsten carbide on its outside edge and its face. It also has holes in the face of the wheel to keep it cool during high-speed use. Aside from its appearance, the unique thing about this wheel is that it can be used like a regular cut-off wheel and used to shape material. Most wheel-type cutters cannot cut on the face of the wheel or cut a curved shape without breaking. The edge of the cutting/shaping wheel will work to accurately cut-off and slot materials, and the face of the wheel can also be used to shape materials. Includes mandrel.

This wheel will work on soft and hard woods, fiberglass, plastics and laminates, however it will not work on metal.

Cutting Wheel

RedEZ544.jpg

The #EZ544 cutting wheel is coated with super-tough tungsten carbide on its outside edge only. It also has holes in the face of the wheel to keep it cool during high-speed use. This wheel can be used like a regular cut-off wheel to accurately cut-off and slot materials.

This wheel will work on soft and hard woods, fiberglass, plastics and laminates, however it will not work on metal.

Diamond Wheels

Red545.jpg

The 545 diamond wheel is 7/8-inch in diameter and is a thin cut-off wheel that is coated with diamonds and has holes in the face of the wheel to keep it cool. This thin wheel cuts and slots hard materials like marble, concrete and brick. The best speeds for this wheel are moderate speeds, between 15,000—20,000 RPM. Moderate speeds are most effective to add life to this accessory. Includes mandrel.

RedEZ545.jpg

The EZ545 diamond wheel is 1 ½-inch in diameter and is a thin cut-off wheel that is coated with diamonds and has holes in the face of the wheel to keep it cool. This thin wheel cuts and slots hard materials like marble, concrete and brick. The best speeds for this wheel are moderate speeds, between 15,000—20,000 RPM. Moderate speeds are most effective to add life to this accessory.

Cutting Bits

Red565.jpg

Before we discuss cutting bits, let’s take a moment to discuss the 565 Multipurpose Cutting Guide attachment. The importance of mentioning this is that the drywall cutter, multipurpose cutter and tile cutter bits are designed to work only in conjunction with the Dremel 565 attachment.

Red560.jpg

The 560 drywall-cutting bit can be used with the Dremel rotary tool outfitted with the cutting guide attachment. Like its name implies, the drywall cutting bit is designed for cutting drywall and is best used when cutting out an electrical outlet box behind drywall moving in a counterclockwise direction.

Red561.jpg

The 561 multipurpose cutting bit is designed for use in wood, plastics, drywall, fiberglass, vinyl or aluminum siding, acoustical tile and laminates. When using the multipurpose bit, start the bit into the material at a 45 degree angle and then slowly bring it to a 90 degree angle to begin the cut. When inserting the 561 bit into your rotary tool, it is very important that 1/16’-1/8” of smooth shank remains visible above the collet.

Red562.jpg

The 562 tile-cutting bit is designed to cut most wall tile, but not floor tile which is typically much harder. When using the tile cutting bit, start the bit into the material at a 45-degree angle and then slowly bring it to a 90-degree angle to begin the cut.
