Can't remove bit from Dremel 3000

I have a Dremel 3000 and cannot remove a bit from the tool.  The tool has an EZ Twist™ nose cap for tighting and loosening the collet that holds the bit.  After using the Dremel today, when I tried to loosen the collet, it would not move.  It appears that the shaft lock button is not holding holding the collet so that it can be unscrewed.

Is there a way to fix this without sending the tool to a repair service?

Anyway you could help? When i hold the lock button on my dremel 3000 it just keeps turning when i try to loosen the tip and I don't want to break anything trying to pry this thing open to locate and fix the problem... Any suggestions?

Hi Wood_carver, I have had this happen to me with my Dremel 4000.  The shaft lock button wouldn't hold so I could loosen the collet.  I was able to loosen the bit in the collet by first lightly tapping the tip of the bit with a ball peen hammer and then using a vise-grip pliers to hold onto the bit in the collet so the bit couldn't move, I was able to loosen the collet enough to get the bit out.  I wish you success with this method.  After I had the bit out of the collet, the shaft lock button worked perfectly.  Go Figure?

How did you keep the shaft from turning?

I kept the shaft from turning by using a vice grip pliers that tightly pinched the bit that was in the collet.

Hi Wood_carver,

There are two issues that can be happening with the tool.

1. The bit and collet are stuck in the tool.  To help you, see this YouTube video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciEGJ0WwzCM

2.  The shaft lock button is broken and it will not hold the shaft in place to be able to remove the collet nut.  In this case, the collect button needs repair.  Our team has reached out to you to help you with this issue.

Let me know if this information helped you.

Peggy
