Thanks, Irv! Great question. Currently, all Dremel rotary tool accessories are being standardized to a 1/8-inch shank size. This change is intended to simplify use across tools and eliminate the need to swap out collets for different shank sizes.
At the moment, only a few accessories—like some drill bits—have shank sizes smaller than 1/8 inch. For most carving tasks, there's no real performance advantage to using a smaller shank. The 1/8-inch size is now the go-to standard for both convenience and compatibility.
