Hybrid Tin Man - Copper Edition

I have this endless supply of copper circuit board material that I picked up from Boeing Surplus 20 years ago.  I use it most all of my projects.  This one I have been pondering for years.  How to make a Tim Man from The Wizard of Oz?  The body was fairly straight forward, but the head, hands and feet were insurmountable to me.  I wanted them to look proper and not just a mashup suggesting the features.  Since my son got me a 3D printer for Christmas I have been working up a storm.  Hundreds of hours and dozens of creations.  These creations are what gave me the idea to make a hybrid Tin Man using 3D modeling and my copper sheeting.  Making the metal parts was a little daunting.  Once I determined the scale, I had to make paper templates of each part.  I used 1/2" 90 degree copper elbows for the interior hips.  Basic PartsBasic PartsDrilling HolesDrilling HolesBack ViewBack ViewFront ViewFront ViewGetting the proper shapes for compund angles was tricky but worthwhile as once they all fit I could trace the shape to the copper and bend, roll and trim them into place.   My Dremel 4300 rotary tool and drill press were perfect for the many holes that I had to drill for the rivets.

Dear Phrogflyer,

With copper circuit board armor and a 3D-printed soul, your hybrid Tin Man has found the perfect brain (your brilliant design), heart (your dedication and creativity), and courage (to tackle compound angles and daunting metalwork). The Emerald City has nothing on your workshop.

We especially tip our hat to your use of the Dremel 4300 and drill press. Like the Lion's courage, the Scarecrow's brains, and the Tin Man's heart, you've combined the best of tools and talent to bring your vision to life.

We're over the rainbow impressed.

There's no place like your workshop.

Your attention to detail is fasinating to me.  What perfect replica of the Tin Man! Did you know the first showing of the "The Wizard of Oz" was shown on August 12th, 1939 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin?  Follow the yellow brick road or link to learn more.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZGtfbJgSjQ

Your Tin Man is another treasure your grandson will enjoy for years to come.
